Vaccines, antibiotics and surgery have eradicated diseases and extended lifespans in ways that no traditional remedy could achieve, and this reliability is precisely what critics feel alternative therapies lack.

In my view, scientific medicine must remain the foundation of care, because lives depend on treatments that demonstrably work. Nevertheless, traditional approaches need not be dismissed entirely; where they are shown to be safe, they can complement modern treatment and support patient wellbeing. The wisest course is to subject all remedies to honest scrutiny and adopt whatever genuinely helps.
